Weekly Sports Update
There was plenty of sporting action to enjoy over the weekend with both the Six Nations and the T20 World Cup getting underway. There was also the Superbowl, top class racing from Newbury, and a full coupon of football keeping our online betting traders busy.
But where did they get beaten by our canny punters? We have trawled through the weekend’s action to find three big winning spread bets.
The Superbowl is far from everyone’s cup of tea, but British fans who stayed up into the small hours watched Seattle Seahawks claim just their second ever title with a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots.
Just over 70,000 people were crammed into Levi’s Stadium in California and they were treated to a defensive masterclass with it taking until the fourth quarter for New England to register their first points of the final.
Key to the Seahawks impressive defensive record has been Aden Duerde, with the Middlesex-born defensive coordinator the first British man to hold the role at a club in the NFL’s history.
With the Patriots unable to get the scoreboard moving in the first half, their Multi-Points spread (first half points multiplied by second half points total) settled at zero. With the spread at 96-116 just before the match got underway, sellers landed a win of 96x their stake.
Bayern took another big step towards retaining their Bundesliga title as they cruised past third place Hoffenheim 5-1 yesterday.
Hoffenheim’s chances of securing a shock upset in Bavaria basically ended when Kevin Akpoguma saw red for a foul on Luis Diaz in the 17th minute. Harry Kane knocked in the resultant spot kick to set Bayern on their way.
England’s number nine doubled his tally when he converted another penalty won by Luis Diaz and there was still time for Diaz himself to get on the scoresheet in injury time.
The Colombian winger has enjoyed his time so far in Munich and a second half brace yesterday secured the match ball and landed buyers on his Super Mega Minutes spread a big winning bet. This spread (which was 36-42 before kick-off) sees the first goal minute count as normal, the second goal minute count double and if the player goes on to score a hat trick, the minute they score it in is counted treble.
With Diaz scoring in the 45th, 62nd and 89th minute, his Super Mega Minutes spread settled at 436 as buyers won 394x their stake.
The Six Nations got underway at the weekend, but Welsh rugby fans could have been forgiven for trying to forget all about it as their side lost their 12th consecutive match at this level.
England were far too good for their opponents from the principality and a 48-7 scoreline did not flatter the hosts who ran in seven tries at Twickenham. Steve Tandy’s young Wales side shot themselves in the foot as they were reduced to 13 men on two separate occasions. England also saw two players given yellow cards as buyers on Bookings related spreads were in the money.
One of the biggest winning spread bets from the weekend came in the Shirts x Bookings market which was 995-1227 before kick-off in London. With tryscorer’s shirts making up at 87 and Bookings settling at 60, Shirts x Bookings settled at 5220 with buyers landing a huge win of 3993x their stake.
Please bear in mind that this is an example of a high-volatility market, so adjust your stake accordingly.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
